Hamad Darwish is a photographer who has an extensive portfolio on Flickr.
He did quite a few shots for use in Windows Vista, of which Microsoft chose two.
He has recently made the entire Windows Vista shoot pics available as a free download. These images are all in high resolution (1920×1200).
You’ll find these images at the bottom of his homepage.
Feel free to download them and throw them on your system, regardless of whether or not you run Vista.
I personally cycle through a few of these backgrounds every few weeks.
They’re stunning shots.
Update from 23-Apr-2007: Here’s another great set of wallpapers.
Update from Jan-1-2008: And more here.

It could be needed for touching up screenshots for demos or documentation, a Powerpoint presentation, graphics for a web site, or even covering up that ugly pimple or whitening those yellow teeth on your favourite self portrait shot.
You will quickly find that the paint program which is built into all Microsoft operating systems (mspaint.exe) is almost useless. To do even basic manipulation requires something more advanced.
If you want an excellent graphical editor, you could go for Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, but that would set you back US$70 for every installation.
