Let’s gaze into the crystal ball and see what things will be like in 2050

Here’s a video showing creative and imaginative predictions of what online technology will be like in the year 2050.

I have some doubts over some of the predictions (such as Google buying Microsoft), but then again, who knows how things will change in 43 years.

The big winners are predicted to be Google, Amazon and Second Life.

bye bye Google Desktop…it was fun while it lasted

Google DesktopIn order to assist you in digging out content that’s buried deep in the abyss of your hard disk folders, many players have come to market to try to be the dominant desktop search provider.

The main players are: Google Desktop Search, Yahoo Desktop Search, Windows Desktop Search, and Copernic Desktop Search.

I have used them all, and in the end I chose to use Google Desktop Search, personally believing it to be superior to the others that I had tested.

About a month after Google Desktop Search came out, hackers managed to find a way to completely take over your system and get access to any of the information that had been indexed on your computer via a vulnerability in the Google Desktop Search program. As soon as I heard about this, I uninstalled Google Desktop Search from my machine and went back to using some of the other desktop search tools.

Google Apps now directly competes with MS Office….Yeah right!

Google Apps vs MS OfficeGoogle have recently released a new product bundling called Google Apps.

It’s a product bundling which includes:

  • email via Gmail
  • calendaring via Google Calendar
  • instant messaging via Google Talk
  • online word processor
  • online spreadsheet
  • web page creator
  • simple web-based admin consoldes

Another important point is that Google allows you to run all of the above on a domain name of your own choice. So your email address would be something like joe@mydomain.com rather than joe@gmail.com
