iPhone 3.0The details for the new version of the iPhone operating system (version 3.0) have just been released.

Most of the user requested features seem to have been added.

Say hello to:

  • cut and paste (text and photos)
  • foundation to allow 3rd party apps to create turn-by-turn driving navigation (yay!)
  • send photos and audio via multimedia messaging (MMS)
  • landscape keyboard in other apps such as mail, SMS and notes
  • built-in application search/launcher
  • search functionality in mail, calendar and the ipod
  • notes syncing with iTunes
  • new voice memo application
  • send and receive files between iPhones/iPods

What’s the downside?……we have to wait a few months to get our hands on it.

Hi Brian

That’s not officially supported.
Apps are normally tied to a particular ipod/iphone.

I guess you could try copying the contents of the iTunes folder to a temp location, syncing the new ipod/iphone, and then copying the contents of the iTunes folder back….but I’m not sure if that would work or not.
I can’t test it, since I only have a single iphone.

Let me know how you go, or if anyone else has some ideas.

You can’t pass an app from one iphone to another. 3.0 will allow users to pass “files” from one phone to another. You can already do that now from a free app in the store called “move it”… I think. It requires wifi for both iphones to be connected to. Should be better with a function that’s native to the iphone.
